Heritage

Tang Soo Do is traditional Korean Martial Art based on the ancient Korean kicking style of Tae Kyun, and soft, flowing movements from the Chinese Martial Arts systems. Through the rituals and discipline of a traditional Martial Art it equips every student with effective modern self defence knowledge, techniques and capabilities.

We always ensure that training sessions are safe, disciplined, fun and well supervised - our classes follow the same format and consist of the following elements:

  • Stretching and physical conditioning
We dedicate at least 30% of the class to physical exercise - we maintain that physical capability to escape is the most effective form of self-defence. Fleeing a dangerous situation is always the best option. Discipline of the body and working through gruelling physical workouts is also an integral part of our self-improvement philosophy.
  • Teaching of forms (Hyungs)
Hyungs are arguably the most important part of our training in Tang Soo Do. They underlie everything we do and help to develop balance and skill in our defence and fighting practice. We teach all of the traditional Korean hyungs to our students and their respective forms will be tested in each official grading.
  • One step self-defence techniques
From day one, we teach our students a set of practical self defence techniques, based on common attacks. These basic defence movements become more refined and complex as our student progress through the ranks.
  • Free-sparring
We offer focused training on free-sparring in order to enter competitions and tournaments. Sparring is a great tool for improving fitness, reaction time and Martial Arts skill.

Above all our students develop self discipline, respect and self confidence.
